Seiko 6139-7020 SpeedTimer

For your consideration is a July 1971 6139-7020 Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) SpeedTimer Automatic Chronograph. This watch should be considered a restoration as some of the components were refurbished. However, all of the components are original to the watch (dial, hands, crown, pushers, movement, & etc). This watch is currently on a very unique New Old Stock (NOS) “racing” style bracelet.

History of the Watch

This 6139 is part of my personal collection of watches and was one that I took in on a trade. I do not know the origin before my ownership. I serviced this watch within the last week and it is running perfectly.

The case is unpolished and shows age and wear commensurate with a 49+ year old watch, although it is in very good condition. The dial is original to the watch and has a date stamp one month prior to the case date. The dial retains its incredibly nice matte black finish that gives these SpeedTimers such a distinctive look. This is the JDM movement so it has 21 jewels in the 6139B movement. I have up-rated the watch with two more jewels in the Mainspring Arbor Ports (lower and upper). This is a bulletproof movement.

The chronograph functions properly and resets the original hands back to their perfect vertical position. The dial has been relumed with superluminova that closely matches the original from Seiko. The hands retain the very clean factory applied lume. Bracelet is a genuine and full length NOS Seiko “racing” style which fits my 7.75” wrist with room. Can be adjusted to fit all wrist sizes below 8″.

I have restored some aspects of the watch and that includes repainting the sweep hand and the minute counting hand. They were badly painted in the past and the new color is very close to what seiko intended from the factory.

I serviced this watch ~1 month ago. That process includes a full cleaning and evaluation of all movement components and proper lubrication. Lubricants used were Moebius synthetic varieties appropriate for this watch movement type. The amplitude numbers are 240-250 range and the rate is +/- 2 sec/day. The case back, pushers and crown all have new, and factory correct seals. The crystal is a factory correct 340W14GN Hardlex Crystal.

Warranty and Shipping

This watch comes with a 1-year limited warranty on the movement from the time of sale. At that price, shipping is free CONUS through USPS 2-day.
